Measuring Life by Experiences – The Mentality Behind Traveling

In a society that is constantly revolving around material goods, it can be easy to focus on items instead of experiences. Although the items you own can give you feelings of worth and luxury, it is really the experiences that you create that bring the most valuable emotions. The greatest gift you can give yourself is the opportunity to discover. You realize how much there is to learn from the world and that there is always more to uncover. When you surround yourself in the same environment day in and day out, your mind is not being used at its full potential. You limit yourself emotionally and physically when you do not take advantage of all the world has to offer. The moment you take initiative to explore… that is when you add depth to your life.

Needless to say, traveling not only adds depth to your life, but it also makes you richer. It is said that traveling is the best form of education. There is a value when you learn about the country you are going to and understand what makes this place unique in the world. In most cases, traveling shows you a different lifestyle in one way or another, and you learn to appreciate the things you take for granted.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up with routine and our own version of structure that it causes us to live life in a condensed setting, cycling through life almost believing “this is it.” According to Susie Steiner from Business Insider, one of the five things people regret most on their deathbed was “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” The best way to conquer this is to drop the expectations others have set out for you and do whatever makes you happy. If that means driving across country or backpacking across the world, do it!

The world is our playground, and it is up to us to measure the depths of our life by traveling and discovering life’s greatest wonders. How amazing is it to become so cultured, diverse, and aware of the world by traveling? Go out there and explore. You deserve to see the world.
